When we help, we place people in an unequal relationship, saying that they need us. In reality, they don’t need us, but they want someone to witness and be supportive of their healing. As participants in natural healing we give support in healing and we are Being of Service By Being Present.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab tab_id=”1460394930272-0-5″ title=”Grounding”][vc_column_text]First we need to ground our mind and body so that we are focused and present with the client/patient we are working on. Then we should assist the client/patient to ground their mind and body as well.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab tab_id=”1460394930848-0-5″ title=”Listening”][vc_column_text]Listening is the key to being in service. Whether you are doing bodywork and/or being supportive in any other way.
Listening to others involves being strong enough to set ourselves aside to really listen. When you reply with advice, stories about yourself, criticisms or judgments, the session becomes more about you and takes the focus off of the client.
The process of listening really intrigues me. I am constantly learning how hard it is to listen…really listen to clients and anyone else.
Listening is the foundation of the therapeutic relationship. Most of the healing occurs just in the listening stage. Our techniques take the process further by allowing the clients to feel themselves while being touched.
The key to listening is to be able to get yourself out of the way. The things that get in the way of listening are our own stories and thoughts that we have created to keep ourselves separate.

Time to time I will have students practice what they are learning in class with their eyes closed. This will help you to start seeing with your hands and to start feeling more details of the body you are working on and see what is going on under the skin.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”How much to give?” tab_id=”1460395989008-4-3″][vc_column_text]Give 110% for the client and 110% for yourself. This also includes being cautious of what they actually need and not over giving to them and from yourself.
be careful… with your client and yourself, don’t over work them or over work yourself. As a massage therapist your main role is to help people not to hurt them. Be sensitive to your clients needs. Remember the best and main ingredient to a great massage is TLC = Tender Loving Care. Be mindful when doing the techniques and also just as important be carful when moving the clients body and yours. Don’t use the client to support your body when moving and be careful not to hit the client’s body when you are moving. Also when moving the client’s body be gentile and move them slowly. Never force, shove, throw or drop the client’s limbs or head. Remember use T.L.C.
In massage your first touch on the client/patient body is one of the first impressions you give so be warm and gentle. Rub your hands together to make your hands warm and to build qi/healing energy. You can do this by focusing your intention on your hands and your client while rubbing your hands.
