Helpful Tips: for getting the most out of your massage
When Making an Appointment . . .
Check
your calendar for several possible times that you might schedule the
massage. Same-day appointments are sometimes not available.
What
are your goals for this massage: stress reduction, focus on a
particular trouble spot, emotional benefits? Consider whether you will
need 60 or 90 min.
Call (or e-mail if not for same day
appointments) to set aside a time to work together. Be sure to mention
your goals and any special needs.
Before the Massage . . .
Allow yourself plenty of time to get to your appointment so that you are not unduly stressed.
Keep open some time after the appointment to enjoy the immediate effects of the massage.
Avoid or limit having caffeine and sugar (as well as other stimulants).
Avoid eating a big meal an hour or two before the massage.
During the Massage . . .
Before we begin, let me know what you want from the massage. Share what
is going on in your body. If you have a tender spot or injured area,
let me know.
Don’t be afraid to discuss any apprehensions or concerns.
If
you need more pressure or a lighter touch, let me know. Speak up freely
if you have any feedback on the pressure, speed of movement, room
temperature, music, or lighting. Remember this is your massage fpr your wellness.
Breath even through tight or sensitive areas Breathe deeply exhale letting the tension leave!
Relax and enjoy.
After the massage . . .
Drink
plenty of water! Massage releases toxins from your muscles. Drinking
water flushes out the toxins and lessens the strain on filtering organs, and reduces soreness on muscle tissue.
Take it slow. Allow some time for “re-entry” and to absorb the results.
Leave the cell phone off for a while if possible.
Consider incorporating some stretches into your daily routine. Feel free to ask me for recommendations.
