[/vc_column_text][vc_tabs interval=”0″ title=”Massage Timeline Past, Present and Future.”][vc_tab title=”Massage History” tab_id=”900aea08-660b-8″][vc_column_text]Massage Therapy is one of the oldest forms of medical care dating back to ancient and medieval times. Archaeological evidence of massage has been found in many ancient civilizations including China, India, Japan, Korea, Egypt, Rome, Greece, and Mesopotamia. BC 2330: The Tomb of Akmanthor also known as “The Tomb of the Physician” in Saqqara, Egypt depicts two men having work done on their feet and hands, presumably massage.
Massage is one of the original forms of primary medicine being that it is a common instinctual behavior for us to massage/rub an injury on ourselves or to love ones.
At Renew Wellness we offer a wide range of styles and modalities including traditional, modern and the integration of both.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”Present Day” tab_id=”6cd4b4f5-d2a9-0″][vc_column_text]
All around the world modernism is making an impact not only on our cultures but also on our bodies. This is why even in my Thai massage courses we adapt the modalities to treat today’s common issues arising from this increasing epidemic. Even in eastern countries where still today Buddhism is practiced you can see the same adaption to the modern worlds lifestyles.
The good news is that also over the past few decades Massage has made a huge comeback as a predominant means of treatment and maintenance in health care around the world.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”The Future” tab_id=”1460403829177-2-9″][vc_column_text]Massage is transforming more and more with new discoveries and innovations. Combining what we are rediscovering from the past and discovering in the present the future possibilities continue to expand.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][/vc_tabs][vc_tabs interval=”0″ title=”Massage Training”][vc_tab title=”The Instructor” tab_id=”40f5914f-f4de-2″][vc_column_text]Licensed Massage Therapist, Personal Fitness Trainer, Health Coach, Hypnotherapist and Sound Therapist, working and educating in the Wellness and Fitness field for over 20 years.
I am an advocate of education and wellness. Being a student myself countless times in the past and still continually exploring and learning I feel that my role as an instructor is much more than simply teaching a group of students techniques that will improve their knowledge and performance in their massage and bodywork practice. Teaching in my opinion is more about personally connecting with every individual and help them bring forth their unique qualities and talents.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”Students” tab_id=”94697cad-8623-0″][vc_column_text]Students study and practice various forms of massage, including Swedish, Clinical, and Thai Massage (with use of hands, elbows, knees, and feet), and gradually integrate basic and advanced Western modalities, such as sports massage, myofascial techniques and trigger point therapy to name a few.
We also focus on Qi, or energy, through the body and basic and advanced passive stretches. Eastern and Western modalities are integrated throughout the program and students incorporate both approaches into their clinical work. Business and ethics courses are also an important part of professional development.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”Lessons” tab_id=”1460394701716-2-7″][vc_column_text]As is mention in the mission statement, my mission in every Massage Therapy/Bodywork Program is to educate students in the science and art of massage therapy both in Western and Eastern styles of treatments and emphasize the integration and practical application of these components.
Lessons cover various massage techniques, anatomy and physiology, energy work, how to evaluate and treat patients of various chronic and/or acute traumas, injuries, discomfort, pains and posture deformations, with a variety of modalities including but not limited to massage therapies, stretching, hydrotherapy, hot and cold treatments and exercises.
The syllabuses are designed around students’ goals and capabilities in order to develop the skills mentioned above. Students’ progress is monitored and evaluated based on demonstration of techniques, body mechanics, and posture throughout the course.
During the past 20 years I have worked as a Massage Therapist, Massage Instructor, Personal Trainer and Sound Therapist. I have been fortunate to work at Pain Clinics, Holistic Centers, Spas, and Fitness Centers around the world.
The courses and sessions offered here combine various forms of modalities that are customized for each patient’s specific needs. The Massage Modalities are categorized into 4 groups: Table Massage, Chiar Massage, Floor Massage, Aquatic Massage. The Modalities include Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports, Thai, and Aquatic Massage among others.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][/vc_tabs][vc_tabs interval=”0″ title=”Healing Begins With…”][vc_tab tab_id=”1460394929717-0-5″ title=”Being of Service”][vc_column_text]Being of service is different from helping.
When we help, we place people in an unequal relationship, saying that they need us. In reality, they don’t need us, but they want someone to witness and be supportive of their healing. As participants in natural healing we give support in healing and we are Being of Service By Being Present.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab tab_id=”1460394930272-0-5″ title=”Grounding”][vc_column_text]First we need to ground our mind and body so that we are focused and present with the client/patient we are working on. Then we should assist the client/patient to ground their mind and body as well.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab tab_id=”1460394930848-0-5″ title=”Listening”][vc_column_text]Listening is the key to being in service. Whether you are doing bodywork and/or being supportive in any other way.
Listening to others involves being strong enough to set ourselves aside to really listen. When you reply with advice, stories about yourself, criticisms or judgments, the session becomes more about you and takes the focus off of the client.
The process of listening really intrigues me. I am constantly learning how hard it is to listen…really listen to clients and anyone else.
Listening is the foundation of the therapeutic relationship. Most of the healing occurs just in the listening stage. Our techniques take the process further by allowing the clients to feel themselves while being touched.
The key to listening is to be able to get yourself out of the way. The things that get in the way of listening are our own stories and thoughts that we have created to keep ourselves separate.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”Seeing” tab_id=”1460395964973-3-2″][vc_column_text]Lessons cover how to start seeing with more than just the sense of sight, but also your sense of touch creates a mental image.
Time to time I will have students practice what they are learning in class with their eyes closed. This will help you to start seeing with your hands and to start feeling more details of the body you are working on and see what is going on under the skin.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”How much to give?” tab_id=”1460395989008-4-3″][vc_column_text]Give 110% for the client and 110% for yourself. This also includes being cautious of what they actually need and not over giving to them and from yourself.
be careful… with your client and yourself, don’t over work them or over work yourself. As a massage therapist your main role is to help people not to hurt them. Be sensitive to your clients needs. Remember the best and main ingredient to a great massage is TLC = Tender Loving Care. Be mindful when doing the techniques and also just as important be carful when moving the clients body and yours. Don’t use the client to support your body when moving and be careful not to hit the client’s body when you are moving. Also when moving the client’s body be gentile and move them slowly. Never force, shove, throw or drop the client’s limbs or head. Remember use T.L.C.
In massage your first touch on the client/patient body is one of the first impressions you give so be warm and gentle. Rub your hands together to make your hands warm and to build qi/healing energy. You can do this by focusing your intention on your hands and your client while rubbing your hands.

The two most common are the static tables (non “standard” and hydraulics) and portable tables (it would be wonderful if there were light weight hydraulic portable tables).[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab tab_id=”1460395846869-0-6″ title=”Chair Massage”][vc_column_text]Chair Massage has the person resting in a seated or reclined position.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”Floor Massage” tab_id=”1460396163581-3-6″][vc_column_text]
